A poster was getting circulated on social media with the message with this- “be proud if your mother is not aware of using social media, doesn’t know her birthday, doesn’t expect birthday gift, is content with the limited resources”, and soon.
I was taken aback with this content.
My first question is why should a son or a daughter be proud of such aspects of their mother? Are they not proud of their mother irrespective of the aspects mentioned in the poster?
Why do we need to stereotype a mother or even women in general?
A mother is always typified as a sacrificing person, a multitasking person who runs from pillar to post without complaining, forgetting her wellbeing.
This expectation from a mother is what makes every mother live with the guilt that she is not a ‘perfect mother’.
A mother is a human first and then a mother. She can be imperfect, let her be. Accept her as she is.
Mothers come in all shapes and sizes, in the sense of different personalities and with different attitudes.
Be proud of your mother whether she knows to operate social media or not, whether she celebrates her birthday or not, whether she is ambitious or not! Your mother is, after all, yours!
