You educate a woman; you educate a generation” by Brigham Young would be the right quote to begin this article which talks about nothing else but the significant role of education in every women’s life.

As a Gen Z girl who recently hit her twenties, I have always thought that education is something that is given to me by my parents who value it as an asset. I was never brought up with the thought that education is something that’s given to me beyond my limits and never will I think so. As a girl who studied in an all-girls school and college, I have seen different types of parents and their varying contributions to their daughters’ studies. Few of them were aware of the fast-moving world and imparted the values of education to their children. But few among them started saving and preparing their daughters for their future, which is marriage as they believed. And that is when I realized the importance of girl’s education.

“Maybe women place their dreams and desires along with the things they place on their roofs and forget it as they run for their life”

There is an incident that always strikes my mind when talking about women’s dreams and education. As we all know, the houses back then were thatched huts and women spent all the time in their kitchen preparing and serving their families with the basic needs. It’s a habitual behavior of most of the women to save things on top shelves and I have heard that those days they inserted it in between the thatched roof of their houses. Some would even FORGET what and where was the thing hidden by them.

This information was shared by my father with a message. “Maybe women place their dreams and desires along with the things they place on the thatched roofs and forget it as they run for their life”. The message shook me. What he said was true, just wondering how many talented writers, orators, artists, and great professionals have we missed by not providing them what they really needed.

Finally, to all the women out there, let’s create our own boundaries and be the game changers!

It’s because people have always looked at women for their beauty, they adorn them. They set specific standards for her living, they have a planned path just to make her walk only on it without aberration, and most importantly to live with the decisions made by someone else. But let me say one thing strongly that there is a brain behind her beauty, dreams before your standards, and her determination above your decisions.

Now, coming back to the quote by Brigham Young, I hope to see the upcoming generation raised and ruled by well-determined women. Finally, to all the women out there, let’s create our own boundaries and be the game changers!

About the writer

Aathira Srishti

Aathira Srishti is a Chennai-based young aspiring author who wrote her first book “Will you be my better half” at the age of 17.
